Q: I use Vonage or another Voice Over Internet Provider (VOIP) for phone service, will my security alarm system work with VOIP.
A. Yes. Security alarm systems were designed to communicate via analog signals to a security monitoring station, we provide solutions to integrate your VOIP system. Having a VOIP system for phone services will change the signal type sent out, and may disable your security system from being able to communicate. Our installation team can setup a radio or cellular backup system that will communicate to alarm monitoring systems without a standard phone line.
Q. Will DSL high speed internet access installation affect my alarm system?
A. Installing DSL internet service may cause interruptions in communication between your alarm systems and the alarm monitoring station. We offer a series of inexpensive solutions to this communication problem, that can be installed by our team or you can do it on your own. These FILTERS MUST BE INSTALLED to make sure that there are signal transmissions from your alarm system to the monitoring and response center.
Q. How often should I test my security system?
A. American Alarms Systems recommends that you run a security alarm systems test on a monthly basis. Our monitoring station routinely receives coded information from alarm systems which are recorded in our monitoring systems and analyzed by our team. Q. My alarm keypad is beeping. What does that indicate?
A. A beeping alarm system or unusual message displays on the control panel may signify that the security system requires service. The cause could also be somewhat simple such as a power failure, or it could be more significant like a problem with your security systems’ ability to send communications signals. To resolve, simply give us a call with a explanation of the sound and message on the alarm panel and we review and find a quick solution.
Q. My smoke detector is chirping or beeping, what does that mean?
A: American Alarms’ smoke and heat detector installations do not have this feature and would not cause a system to chirp. The sound can come from a variety of other sources, or even another piece of equipment like a cell phone or wireless phone. Often the source could be an electric smoke detector that has a back up battery that is running low and requires replacement.
Q: Can I get a discount on homeowners insurance if I install an alarm system?

Q: What will happen if my phone lines are cut?

Q: What will happen to my security system if the A.C. power fails?
A: American Alarms offers security systems with a backup battery to provide power to security alarm systems for several hours in case of a power loss. When the power is restored, the backup power is designed to self recharge. We recommend regular maintenance is performed to make certain that your system is operating properly.
Q: Will I require an alarm permit?
A: Every city may have different codes or requirements. Please contact your city hall for information on permit requirements for security or fire alarms before your installation date.
